How’s this for speaking truth to power?
DAN LOTHIAN, CNN WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT: Last night at the Republican debate, some of the hopefuls, they hope to get your job, they defended the practice of waterboarding, which is a practice you banned in 2009. Herman Cain said quote, “I don’t see that as torture.” Michele Bachmann said that it’s quote “very effective.”
So I’m wondering if you think that they’re uninformed, out of touch, or irresponsible?
As I noted in an earlier post, waterboarding is something the U.S. simply should not do. That’s not the issue here. The issue is the elite media’s tendency to lob the goofiest of softballs at politicos they agree with. Lothian’s softball to Obama might not be quite the all-time suck-up that this is —

But one of the prerequisites for being a White House correspondent ought to be having enough integrity to NOT ask a politician if his opponents are (a) evil, or (b) just plain stupid…
